Authorities report a devoted husband and father died Wednesday night following a collision between his car and a tree. Middletown Police named the crash victim as 30-year-old Matthew Le Clair. According to police, officers were called to an accident at Atkins Street and Timber Ridge Road. Le Clair was found driving a 2015 Infiniti Q50 SUV that had “serious damage,” according to a news release from the department. The Infinity appears to have veered off course for unknown reasons before hitting a tree. Le Clair was saved from the car by firefighters, but died there, according to police.
The accident remains under investigation. Matt’s beloved wife was Jessica Noel LeClair, a clinical oncology chemist at Smilow Cancer Hospital. Irene (Saam) and Joseph LeClair welcomed Matthew LeClair into the world on February 23, 1993 in Waterbury, Connecticut. He attended local schools and placed fourth in his class at Oliver Wolcott Technical High School, where he studied as an electrician. Throughout his four years at OWTS, he participated in four sports and was captain of each. He was recognized as a CIAC male scholar-athlete for his school and as an all-state volleyball player his senior year. He belonged to Watertown Troop 52 as an Eagle Scout.
