Microsoft, the world’s largest maker of computer software, has given its stamp of approval to use Parallels Desktop 18 on M1 and M2-based Macs to run ARM versions of Windows 11 Pro and Enterprise.

The company is now able to provide Parallels Desktop version 18 as an “approved solution” thanks to its partnership with Parallel. The company issued a supporting article that makes the same announcement.
For those who don’t know, the hardware virtualization program known as Parallels Desktop makes it possible for users to run Windows on Mac. According to an article published by Microsoft, Apple M1 and M2 computers can run Arm versions of Windows 11 Pro and Windows 11 Enterprise in a virtual environment in Parallels Desktop version 18. This is made possible by Parallels Desktop’s ability to host multiple virtual machines.
However, Microsoft notes that the Arm version of Windows 11 has limitations that may impact users’ ability to use various types of hardware, games, and apps. This includes software and games that are based on DirectX 12 or OpenGL3.3 or higher. For example, experiences that rely on a nested virtualization layer are not supported because they require an additional virtualization layer. These are the following:

- Windows Subsystem for Linux allows a GNU/Linux operating system to run inside of Windows 11.
- Windows Sandbox is a lightweight desktop environment that allows applications to run safely in isolation.
- Virtualization Based Security (VBS) allows users to create and isolate a secure section of memory on their devices from the regular operating system.
Meanwhile, Microsoft announced Friday that it would limit the number of questions asked during chat sessions on its new generative artificial intelligence (AI)-powered search engine Bing to five per session and fifty per day.
