Missing 10-year-old Florida boy steals his mother’s car for a 200-mile ride with his sister

A 10-year-old boy and his 11-year-old sister stole their mother’s car and went for an early morning drive before being caught more than 200 miles from their home in Florida, according to police.

The brothers’ adventure ended when Alachua County Sheriff’s Office deputies spotted a white sedan driving on I-75 in Alachua, near Gainesville, and stopped the car around 3:50 a.m.

Because the vehicle was stolen, officers conducted a “high-risk traffic stop.”

But they were surprised when they found the young man in the driver’s seat and his older sister next to him.

Photos from the scene released by the sheriff’s office show both children surrendering.

Both boys kept their hands in the air as they exited the vehicle surrounded by police.

The brothers were reported missing to the North Port Police Department, officers learned.

Their mother declined to press charges and made the three-hour drive to Alachua County to pick up her children, according to the sheriff’s office.

No injuries or damage were reported.
