Missing Israeli woman’s boyfriend agonizes over last-minute decision to skip party with her

The boyfriend of an Israeli woman still missing after attending a music festival raided by bloodthirsty Hamas terrorists said he is living in agony after deciding to skip the party at the last minute.

“I feel like I needed to go and be there with her. Maybe I could have done something different,” Ohad Malul told The Post by phone, his voice breaking. “It’s killing me inside not to be with her.”

His girlfriend of two years, Shani Kupervaser, has not been seen or heard from since she fled the Nova Tribe event in the Negev desert with friends and was attacked by Hamas fighters with grenades and gunshots.

“We don’t know if she is alive, dead or missing. We don’t know if she was kidnapped because no one told us,” Malul said.

Palestinian terrorists paraglided across the border from Gaza and stormed the event on Saturday, killing at least 260 attendees and kidnapping dozens more.

Kupervaser, a 27-year-old economics student who had a job lined up after graduation, went to the Nova festival with six friends, but Malul said he decided not to go because he was tired after returning from a trip to Paris. .

“She said, ‘I’ll be back, I won’t be going for a long time… Everything’s going to be okay,’” he said.

But that quickly changed when Malul, also 27, received a message from his girlfriend saying she had seen rockets above her head.

Kupervaser immediately fled with three friends in a car, heading towards his home in Be’er Sheva, but they were attacked and abandoned the vehicle to run towards a roadside bomb shelter where people ordered those fleeing to take shelter.

It turned out to be a trap.

“They took 30 people inside and the terrorists started throwing grenades inside,” Malul said, recounting conversations he had with friends who made it out alive.

A Twitter video shows attendees of the Tribe of Nova music festival fleeing a terrorist attack during a Hamas raid on October 7, 2023 in southern Israel.

A man inside the shelter bravely began catching the grenades and throwing them at the Hamas terrorists, and one of Kupervaser’s friends did the same.

“After five or six grenades, the terrorists got angry, took an RPG rocket and fired through the door,” Malul said.

They then entered the shelter and “shot everywhere.”

Israel’s Foreign Ministry released a photograph purportedly showing bodies at the Tribe of Nova music festival killed during a Hamas raid on October 7, 2023 in southern Israel.

Kupervaser became separated from his friends at that moment as thick black smoke filled the shelter, according to his friends’ accounts.

“It’s something you can’t imagine, that they would throw grenades in a small room just to kill everyone,” Malul said.

“The other people who survived can hardly speak. “They are devastated,” he said, adding that another of her friends he fled with is missing.

Malul said his girlfriend, whom he met at university, was not on any of the death lists shared by Israeli authorities and has not been found in any hospital.

He feels his only option is to hope she has been kidnapped if it means she is still alive.

“I just hope she’s alive, that’s all. Just hope,” Malul told The Post from Israel. “If they take her away from me, my heart is going to completely break.”

He said that in a few days Kupervaser will turn 28 years old and that he was about to start working at a highly competitive company.

“She is the smartest, [most] Beautiful and kind person I have met. Everyone who meets her falls in love with her,” Malul said. “She was one of the best in economics. She made two races in four years.”

He told The Post that they had just bought new furniture together and that he planned to propose to her soon.

“I just hope she comes home. I just want to hug her and tell her that I love her so much. She is the love of my life. She is the love of my life… I don’t care what happened, I just want her to be there,” she said with a trembling voice.
