Mitt Romney says he would vote for Democrat and not Trump, Vivek Ramaswamy

Sen. Mitt Romney said he would vote for a Democrat over former President Trump or businessman Vivek Ramaswamy in a potential showdown in the 2024 general election.

“I would love to support pretty much any of the Republicans, maybe not Vivek, but the others that are running would be acceptable to me and I would be happy to vote for them,” Romney told CBS news anchor Norah O.’ Donnell in a clip that resurfaced online Saturday.

“I would also be happy to vote for several Democrats. I mean, he would be an improvement over, in my opinion, Donald Trump and maybe Joe Biden as well,” Romney added, without specifying which Democrats he had in mind.

The comments were originally aired a month ago as part of a long discussion between Romney and O’Donnell over a new book about the senator.

“Look, I like President Biden. You know, I find him a very charming and attractive person. There are some points I agree with him on, but on most points I disagree with him. I think he’s made all kinds of terrible mistakes, but I’d like to see someone else run,” Romney said.

Although Romney is a Republican senator from Utah and the party’s former 2012 presidential candidate, he has clashed with much of the Republican base and complained to O’Donnell about how “populist” the party had become.

The clip immediately began circulating among X’s pro-Trump fans, who insisted that Trump and Ramaswamy should accept the criticism.

Ramaswamy mocked Romney and said his comments were “not surprising.” AP Former President Trump remains the party’s favorite for the 2024 presidential election.AP

Conservative commentator Monica Crowley criticized the senator in X as a “one-party loser” and noted that he is the uncle of Republican National Committee Chairwoman Ronna Romney McDaniel, who has also faced criticism from the base for the party’s poor performance in several election cycles under her leadership.
