Models found dead in luxury Los Angeles homes just days apart as distraught families search for answers

Two models were found dead in their luxury apartments in downtown Los Angeles just two days apart and less than a mile from each other, and one of the dead women’s families fears a killer is on the loose.

Nichole “Nikki” Coats, 32, was found in her apartment on Grand Avenue after police responded to a call from relatives who could not locate her on September 10, the LA Times reported.

Coats’ death is not being investigated as a homicide, citing police and the Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner-Coroner.

But his family told KTLA they found his bed bloody.

“This doesn’t make sense and I want some answers because my daughter is gone,” Sharon Coats, Nikki’s mother, told the outlet. “And it is not fair. I want everyone to know who did this to him. “She shouldn’t have left.”

Two days later, Maleesa Mooney, 31, was found dead in her Bunker Hill apartment on South Figueroa Street on September 12, Fox LA reported.

His death is being investigated as a homicide, police said.

It is unclear if the two deaths are related.

Mooney, a real estate agent, stopped responding to texts and calls from her worried family.

“When a week passed, we knew something was wrong,” her cousin Bailey Babb told KTLA. “His messages from her were not transmitted and we knew something was up because we all have a special relationship with Maleesa.”

Her sister Jourdin Pauline described the tragic model as a kind and loving person and said she had no idea who would want to kill her.

“Maleesa has always been someone who is a peacemaker in our family, someone who has always been the backbone and makes sure that everyone is together and loves each other,” Pauline told the outlet.

“So a large part of us no longer exists,” he added.

Mooney’s cause of death remains unknown pending an autopsy, according to Los Angeles police, who are seeking the public’s help in identifying a possible suspect.

Meanwhile, Coats’ devastated family has expressed frustration over the lack of information from investigators.

Coats was last heard from when he told friends he was going on a date on September 8, according to the outlet.

When she didn’t respond to calls or texts, her family went to her apartment on September 10 and discovered her body in the gruesome scene.

Nichole coatsCoats’ family said they initially did not recognize her when they stumbled upon her body.

“I couldn’t recognize her,” her aunt May Stevens told KTLA. “I think it was murder, really. One of her legs was in the air in a kicking position. That’s not someone who just laid down in her bed and died.”

Sharon said her daughter had no enemies, but she believes she was killed.

“I don’t know who he went out with or what happened there,” the grieving mother told the outlet. “I have no idea but I’m going to find out. So if you’re out there, they’ll catch you. “You’re messing with the wrong person.”

Coats’ cousin Sheniya Mason told ABC 7: “I was so distraught… It felt like everything was moving in slow motion. And I’m still in shock…denying that she’s not here.”

She said the death “just didn’t look right to us… It didn’t look right the way she was positioned on the bed. She was even unrecognizable… as if she had been beaten.

“They had to (identify her) by her tattoos,” Mason said.

He wondered if there was a link between the two deaths.

“We just want to know what happened… It just doesn’t seem right… Is there a correlation between these two women? Is there a correlation? she told the station.

“They were both almost in the same area…we have to make sure this isn’t something else because it just didn’t seem right,” Mason added.

The family also expressed concern that a serial killer could attack another woman.

“I feel like there’s a predator on the loose,” Stevens told KTLA.

Coats was mourned on a GoFundMe page.

“Nikki’s vibrant personality moved and affected everyone she encountered. She is known as an incredible daughter, friend, and soul. Her untimely passing has left us shocked,” wrote organizer John Clark.

“There is no way we could have imagined or prepared for this difficult time,” he added.

The cases remain under investigation. Anyone with information is asked to call police at 1-877-527-3247.
