A recent incident at a Georgia hotel has sparked intense debate about discipline, parenting, and the responsibility of companies to monitor consumer behavior online.
The mother in question was disciplined by the hotel for her “badly behaved” children. While some Internet users agree with the hotel’s choice, others wonder if these actions go too far.

Who is this couple?
The couple are Kyle and Lyndsey Landmann of Florida. They have three young children, whose ages range from 3 to 8 years old.
What happened in the restaurant?
A few weeks ago, Kyle and Lyndsey Landmann dined at Toccoa Restaurant in Blue Ridge, Georgia, where they were slapped with an extra $50 on their bill due to the restaurant’s policy that imposes a fine on those who “can’t be parents.”
After dinner, the restaurant owner notified them that his children were making “too much noise” and “running around.” Kyle posted a restaurant review on Google and stated that he was “disappointed by the experience.”
“My children’s behavior has caused the owner to come out and tell me he is adding $50 to my bill,” the man wrote.
He added: “While I was waiting and paying the bill, my children would watch a tablet until the food arrived, they would eat it and then my wife would take them outside.” Along with four other families, Florida’s couple and her three young children were present.
Eleven children, between three and eight years old, were sitting at the table. Lindsey said: “The children were sitting at one end of the table and were very well behaved.” I even said, “I can’t believe how well behaved they are,” halfway through lunch.
When Tim Richter, a 61-year-old restaurant owner, approached after dessert, several parents were taking their children to the ocean, he continued. The owner informed them of the additional charge listed on the menu under the heading “Adult Surcharge – For adults who cannot be parents.”
Tim informed Channel 2 News that he had never accused anyone before. Still, he had instituted the surcharge during the epidemic after seeing a family whose nine children were “running all over the restaurant.”
Tim refused to appear on camera. “We want parents to be parents,” he said, adding that he never penalized the family, he just issued a warning. It wasn’t just this family either, as many other Google reviewers have severely criticized the restaurant’s level of service and the owner’s behavior.
