Chinese immigrants typically arrive at the U.S. southern border after flying to Brazil, Ecuador or Nicaragua, which have limited visa requirements for some nationalities.

Immigrants from India are reportedly most frequently flying to Mexico City from Europe or crossing the border through Canada.

CBP data shows there were 189,402 encounters at the northern border in the fiscal year that ended in September, a 73 percent increase from 109,535 the previous year and a nearly seven-fold increase from two years ago. .
