A man is suspected of killing three women and wounding a man before killing himself during a carjacking in central Illinois Thursday night, police said. The shooting occurred at a rural Ashland home about 10 miles west of Springfield after police responded to a call of a man shot in the chest, according to a police report. The report says officers arrived to find a man shot to death and a woman dead inside the home. The man who was shot told police about an assault earlier that day at another home in Ashland, the report said. Two women were found dead in that home.

The surviving man was taken to the hospital with critical injuries, according to a news release from the Cass County Sheriff’s Office.
