What happened to Amanda Carroll?
The identity of Amanda Carroll, a mother of two, initially drew media attention after her death on October 21, 2018. Her boyfriend, the vile Sean Nolan, cruelly killed the mother of his two children. Her son found her body in the bedroom of her apartment. The alleged murderer had pleaded guilty to involuntary manslaughter at his partner’s apartment, but not to murder. After a trial, Nolan was found guilty of killing Amanda by a majority of the jury. As a result of Nolan’s appeal against his murder conviction, the murder case has also gained new attention.
The murder of Amanda Carroll occurred on October 21, 2018. Her son Denis Carroll, who had left the house that morning to play soccer and was unaware that his mother had passed away, found her body in her apartment bedroom. Denis disclosed to defense attorney Shane Costelloe SC that her mother was in a committed relationship with a different man until May 2018. But soon after, she began dating defendant Nolan. In addition, Amanda’s son informed Costelloe that he recalled an incident in which her mother and her defendant had a fight over her ex-boyfriend, Carroll’s youngest son. Denis claimed that he intervened between her mother and the defendant because he wanted to defend her at the time.
Denis testified that he visited House two weeks before his mother’s death and saw his mother and the suspect intoxicated but otherwise healthy. Vile Sean Nolan, Amanda Carroll’s boyfriend, was sentenced to life in prison in November 2020 for the murder. After some family members became upset during victim impact statements and yelled insults at Nolan, the court briefly adjourned. Carroll and Nolan were reportedly heavy drinkers who had volatile attitudes towards drinking. The day she was killed, the two had started a drunken session early in the morning. Both Carroll and Nolan were arrested after Nolan drove her car while intoxicated: Carroll for a public order violation and Nolan for driving under the influence.
