State Sen. John Mannion, who launched a bid for New York’s hotly contested 22nd Congressional District in July, was caught on a Zoom call on Sept. 14 discussing “the migrant issue” with other Democratic candidates, Fox News reported. .
“I represent those very Republican areas,” Mannion said in the leaked call.
“They are afraid that buses of immigrants will come to where they live and change their community,” he continued.
“It’s just unbelievable to me, but I’m not surprised by the ignorance.”
In May, Mannion criticized Adams for moving a bus full of asylum seekers to a hotel in Salina, New York, a city in his state Senate district, which stretches from Syracuse to Oswego.
“New York City’s unilateral decision to send immigrants four hours away from their chosen destination is a political failure playing out in real time,” Mannion told NewsChannel 9.
“This situation is not fair for immigrants or the communities I represent.”
