New York store presents adoptable dogs in pizza boxes to help them find a home

In the heart of bustling Manhattan, where the aroma of pizza fills the air, a unique initiative has taken root at a local pizzeria. This innovative approach not only satisfies the city’s craving for delicious pizza, but also aims to improve the lives of the shelter’s dogs.

Customers at this pizzeria might discover more than just a slice in their box: the chance to meet a new furry friend looking for a loving home.

A franchise called Just Pizza & Wing Co. is taping adoptable dog flyers to its checkouts. This New York pizzeria offers its customers a particularly nice gift to accompany their cravings.

What makes this pizzeria do this?

Just Pizza & Wing Co. owner Mary Alloy was the creative force behind it. Alloy was inspired by her experience volunteering at the Niagara SPCA, where she saw firsthand the difficulties of finding adoptive homes for shelter animals.

According to CNN, Alloy collaborated with SPCA event coordinator Kimberly LaRussa to come up with strategies to help more animals in shelters find forever homes.

He decided to support animals in shelters by donating and using his pizza business as a platform. Numerous dogs have found homes since the start of the campaign.

Alloy plans to continue attaching flyers until a loving parent is found for each adoptable animal. “Kimberly texted me one night and said, ‘Hey, how would you like to put pictures of the dogs on pizza boxes?’ and I just couldn’t wait,” Alloy told CNN.

“We’re all animal lovers here, so I got permission from the franchise to do it and immediately got to work.”

When did they start doing this?

Customers at the pizzeria began receiving orders on Friday, November 10, 2023, which included boxes containing photos of adorable puppies that were up for adoption.

The best part, according to Alloy, has been the response from customers. People “loved it,” and on Saturday, i.e. November 11, 2023, a 6-month-old puppy named Larry was adopted after just one day of the flyers being placed on pizza boxes.
