His father Navendu Mathur is a businessman and his mother Kavita Mathur is a businesswoman who runs Fitness & Wellness Company. She has worked in mass communication at Sophia College for Women, Mumbai. While graduating, Nitya began acting in theaters. Later, she also pursued a postgraduate degree in Acting and Theater Creation at The Drama School, Mumbai, from 2018 to 2019.

In 2020, Nitya landed her first acting role in the MX Player web series High, playing the role of Ishani alongside Akshay Oberoi, Ranvir Shorey and Mrinmayee Godbole. Consequently, she got the opportunity to play a supporting role in Madhuri Dixit starrer web series The Fame Game. In 2022, she played an important role in Disney+ Hotstar series Tazaa Khabar.
