Obama’s top campaign guru David Axelrod believes Biden’s chances in 2024 are “no better” than 50-50

Former President Obama’s top campaign guru said President Biden’s chances of winning the 2024 presidential election were “no better” than 50-50, and possibly even worse.

David Axelrod made the grim prediction to New York Times columnist Maureen Dowd on Saturday. Biden, the nation’s oldest president, will turn 81 on Monday and will be 86 at the end of a second term.

“I think it’s a 50-50 chance here, but no better than that, maybe a little worse,” Axelrod said.

“He believes that he can fool nature here and it is really risky. They have a real problem counting on Trump to win it for them. I remember Hillary did that too.”

There is likely no love lost between the two men, as Biden is known to privately refer to Axelrod as a “moron,” Politico reported earlier this week.

The bad blood underscores broader friction that has long persisted between the Team Obama and Team Biden political camps.

As the economy plummets and war spreads in the Middle East and Europe, Americans have become pessimistic about a second Biden term, polls show.

A Bloomberg News/Morning Consult poll released last week showed Trump leading Biden in six swing states, with or without third-party spoilers.
