The event took place on Friday. The carrier told AFP that although the plane landed safely even after the fatal passenger error, several passengers had to be hospitalized after the incident. The Airbus A321-200 was carrying around 200 passengers as it approached the runway at Daegu International Airport on a domestic flight.
According to what the representative of the airline told the outlet, a passenger manipulated the emergency exit and opened it when the plane was still about 200 meters from the ground. The passenger was sitting near the exit door and “opened the door manually by touching the lever.”
The sudden opening of the door stunned many passengers and caused some passengers to have respiratory problems. After the plane landed safely, some passengers were taken to the hospital for medical attention. Although the airline says no major injuries or damage have been reported so far.

According to South Korea’s Yonhap news agency, a total of nine people were hospitalized after the incident. Asiana also confirmed that the passenger had been booked, “has been taken to the police and is under questioning” to find out why they opened the door in the first place.
Several videos of the incident have surfaced online. In one clip, a passenger captured the view of the person right next to the emergency exit that had opened. The sky was all the camera could capture, and strong gusts of wind blew through the plane door, hitting the passengers in the face.
