Carney currently produces and writes music from his Audio Eagle recording facility in Nashville, Tennessee. He has worked with a wide range of musicians, including the Black Keys, Michelle Branch, Calvin Johnson, Tennis, the Sheepdogs, Beaten Awake, Houseguest, Churchbuilder, Jessy Wilson, Kramies and *repeat, repeat.
In an interview with Modern Drummer, Carney stated that he never took drum lessons as a child, but rather learned by imitating friends who were also drummers, using a $150 drum kit purchased with money earned from a job washing dishes at Mustard Seed Market & Cafe in Bath Township, a suburb of Akron. Carney was influenced musically when he was young by Pavement, Captain Beefheart and his Akron bandmate, Devo.
