He served as representative for Sherwood Park in the Legislative Assembly of Alberta from 1986 to 1993 under his public service. Elzinga served as the country’s Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Trade and Economic Development, Minister of Agriculture, and Minister of Federal and Intergovernmental Affairs during this time.
