Ebony Pugh, director of Public Relations and Media Content for Pittsburgh Public Schools, confirmed to Fox News Digital that the Pittsburgh School District Board of Trustees authorized her offices to enter into a contract with Quetzal.

The move will provide the school with “additional foundational knowledge on anti-racist mathematics pedagogy and tangible learning experiences that can be implemented with students.”

Quetzal will provide support through introductory workshops for math teachers and a leadership series for administrators.

The school board agenda for the meeting confirms the purpose of the introductory workshops, which will confront “oppressive practices in mathematics teaching with practices that center the well-being of students of color and provide opportunities for mathematics departments and teachers to increase his anti-racist mathematical praxis. collaboratively in pedagogy and instruction.”

Several schools, organizations, and states have issued guidance and promoted programs for teachers that seek to eliminate racism from mathematics.

In 2021, the state of Oregon defended teacher training “Pathways to Equitable Math Instruction,” which warns that focusing on finding the correct answer in class is an example of how white supremacy infiltrates schools.
