Pune Man’s Unfortunate Day: Reports Stolen Phone, Thief Snatches Bike As Well

It was just not his day. A 29-year-old Pune guy was on his way to the police station to report the loss of his cell phone when it was stolen from his motorcycle by a different burglar.

What’s worse, in both situations, he was attempting to assist the perpetrators when they stole his possessions. Here’s what happened next.

Man lost his phone and his bike on the same day

The victim had recently relocated to Pune for work and was unfamiliar with the area. On July 20, he was walking home from work when a stranger approached him and asked for assistance. 

According to the Times of India, the man told him that he needed money to return to Buldhana. After the naive victim gave him Rs 500 over UPI, the beggar asked if he could borrow his phone to make a brief phone call.

The victim permitted the man to use his cell phone but regretted his decision when the man fled with the device before he could stop him.

Here’s what happened next:

Stunned and disoriented, the unidentified victim contacted a bystander for directions to the local police station because he was unfamiliar with the region. The individual assured him he knew a lot of cops and would assist him in making a report if the victim bought him a smoke.

The guy escaped with his bike when the 29-year-old went to get a cigarette. On Tuesday, the Pune resident filed a complaint with the Bhosari police station after discovering that the same criminal who took his phone had moved Rs 3,000 from his account.

Police have charged two unidentified persons with violating Sections 406 and 420 of the Indian Penal Code.

Next time he wants to do a good deed, maybe he should have a checklist handy: “Helpful Tips for the Unfortunate Samaritan: Step 1: Ensure your belongings are securely locked up. Step 2: Consider a ‘no lending’ policy for phones. Step 3: – Double-check if the helpful stranger is secretly a magician.”
