In his rant, user Gautam Arya shared that it all started when he had an argument with his frugal mother about wanting to buy an air conditioner for his home office. Arya works from home and earns a lot of money.
During the fight she had with her mother, who like every desi mom suggested that she work from three other rooms in her house that already had good air conditioning, Arya, to stop the argument, announced her actual income to justify her purchase. The revelation helped her case as her mother was totally okay with the new air conditioner afterwards.
Not only did she buy an air conditioner, her mother also changed her spending patterns and relaxed a bit after being thrifty for most of her life. Her mother also started announcing her new knowledge in front of her relatives, which didn’t hurt Arya too much at first, as she could see that she was proud of him.
Soon the requests began to arrive
However, soon after the applications began to arrive. He wrote: “But this is putting extra pressure on me, and now I have relatives calling me every other day with ‘distress’ calls, asking for money.” Things got to the point that Arya says she had to stop posting about her travels on social media. It was all because she was afraid that her relatives would come asking for more if they saw her lifestyle.
He added: “I am extremely frustrated with the way I now hesitate to enjoy my wealth, but I have to attend to all the money sense around me.”
