Rediscovered old Nintendo and Sega games from a closed Nebraska store in the ’90s could fetch a six-figure payday

More than 150 vintage video games stored since the 1990s could generate a six-figure salary for a Nebraska man who owns the collection.

Super Nintendo and Sega Genesis games that were once for sale at an Omaha video game store that closed in 1998 are back on the market after they were recently certified, exciting video game lovers.

Dubbed the Nebraska Collection, the cache of 173 cartridges could fetch around six figures, Chris Kohler, collector and editorial director of Digital Eclipse, recently told NPR.

The games used to be in a store owned by Mark Odorisio, the outlet reported.

He put the games away and only revisited the treasure trove years later, which included hundreds of factory-sealed games. The discs were graded and authenticated, and the 173 games were deemed most valuable.

“I told him, ‘Mark, you have to make a decision about these games. What’s your plan?’” Mark’s brother, Tim Odorisio, recalled to NPR. “He said, ‘Well, I was just going to keep them and then when I died, it was going to be for the kids.’ I say, ‘We can’t…your heart is in the right place, but your mind sucks.'”

Chris Thompson, owner of a chain of video game stores in Nebraska called Gameroom, is helping the brothers in their effort to resell the games.

He posted a video in February 2022 of the impressive multi-box collection.

One of the most notable games is a copy of Chrono Trigger, which is a cult classic RPG.

“The game itself is just this incredible masterpiece of the role-playing video game genre that… a lot of people would say is the best role-playing game ever made,” Kohler told NPR. “Basically, this is the best copy of this particular game you’ve ever seen.”

He believes individual games could possibly sell for $10,000.

Thompson made it clear in a recent YouTube video that single-game sales are not available, but someone can offer to buy all the shares.

Certain Sonic the Hedgehog, Jurassic Park, Star Trek, and sports games are within the collection.
