Republican National Committee officials threatened to ban Chris Christie and Vivek Ramaswamy from the upcoming GOP primary debate over a planned joint appearance on Fox News Channel, the pair said Tuesday.
Christie, the former governor of New Jersey, and Ramaswamy, a biotechnology entrepreneur, would appear simultaneously on FNC’s nightly news program “Special Report.”
However, both candidates said Republican National Committee officials warned them that doing so would go against their promise to participate only in sanctioned debates and rule them out of the Nov. 8 showdown in Miami.
Now, both 2024 hopefuls plan to conduct separate interviews with Fox host Bret Baier and are criticizing the RNC.
“It is very disappointing that they threatened to exclude us from the Miami debate and future debates for trying to have a more complete dialogue with each other and with the voters. “Fox News offered that opportunity to all campaigns and now they have been effectively banned by the RNC,” Christie wrote in a scathing post on X, formerly Twitter.
Ramaswamy echoed that sentiment.

“Last week’s Republican National Committee debate was an embarrassment and I’m starting to believe it was intentional. This is what a rigged and rigged nomination process looks like,” she wrote.
“I don’t agree with @GovChristie, but when they asked me to take him on, I said I’d be a man and do it, before the RNC stepped in to cut him off.”

An RNC spokesperson criticized Christie and Ramaswamy for complaining about the threat.
“The same candidates who complain about the rules governing Republican National Committee debates signed a pledge and agreed months ago not to participate in unauthorized debates,” the spokesperson said.
“The Republican National Committee will continue to implement a fair and transparent debate process and we will not bow to pressure from people seeking to change the rules to favor their candidacy.”
Both Christie and Ramaswamy clashed over political differences during the first Republican debate on August 23, with Christie mocking Ramaswamy as “a guy who sounds like ChatGPT.”
After last week’s second debate, Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis challenged frontrunner and former President Donald Trump to a one-on-one verbal fight, which the 77-year-old’s campaign flatly rejected.
DeSantis also plans to face California Governor Gavin Newsom in a televised debate on November 30.

Fox News did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
Trump has skipped the first two RNC debates and his campaign has urged the committee to rule out any future showings.
“The Republican National Committee should immediately cancel the upcoming debate in Miami and end all future debates to refocus its manpower and money on thwarting Democrats’ efforts to steal the 2024 election,” the Republicans wrote in a statement.
