Romi Bhatia married former Indian cricketer and coach Kapil Dev in 1980. They met through a close friend, Sunil Bhatia. In Kapil’s book, Triumph of the Spirit, the legendary cricketer had recounted his proposal to Romi Bhatia. They were traveling on a local train when he asked her the question.
While traveling around the Mumbai venue, a large billboard appeared that had Kapil Dev’s photo on it. The cricketer immediately asked Romi to capture it and said:
“Dear, would you like to take photographs of this beautiful place? We can show the image to our children in the future.”
The couple has a daughter named Amiya Dev on January 16, 1994.
