Meet the woman who observed 30 years of silence at the Ram temple in Ayodhya
Saraswati Aggarwal, an 85-year-old resident of Karamtand in Dhanbad, has maintained her vow of silence for the last 30 years. Her commitment is linked to the construction of the Ram temple in Ayodhya.
When will you break your fast?
On January 22, when the temple of Lord Shri Ram in Ayodhya is consecrated, Aggarwal, after maintaining a silence of three decades, will finally break it with the expression “Ram, Sitaram”.
Feeling blessed, Aggarwal believes that she has been summoned by ‘Ram Lalla’ to participate in the Pran Pratistha (consecration) ritual.
Accompanied by her brothers, she reached Ayodhya on January 8.
Aggarwal’s spiritual odyssey began in May 1992 and took her to Ayodhya, where she met Mahant Nritya Gopal Das, the director of the Ram Janmabhoomi Trust.
Following their instructions, he traveled to Chitrakoot, residing with the Kalpavas for seven and a half months. During this time, he sustained himself only on a glass of milk daily and diligently circumambulated the 14-kilometre trail around Kamtanath Mountain every day.
On completing the parikrama, he returned to Ayodhya. On December 6, 1992, she crossed paths with Swami Nritya Gopal Das, who inspired her to observe a silent fast, promising to break it on the auspicious day of the consecration of the Ram temple.
