In 1984, Fischer co-founded Mountain Madness, along with his friends Wes Krause and Michael Allison. Fischer tore the rotator cuff in his right shoulder on his first attempt to climb K2. He reached the summit without oxygen on his second attempt. In 1994, Fischer reached the summit of Mount Everest. As part of the expedition, the team removed 5,000 pounds of trash from the mountain’s surface. Fischer has climbed the highest peaks on six continents during his lifetime.

Fischer died on May 11, 1996, on Mount Everest in Nepal. The causes of his death are considered to be hypothermia and acute mountain sickness (AMS). He did not carry supplemental oxygen and was exposed to the very cold temperature of the altitude for a long time.
