Sandra was only 35 years old then.
Consequently, Harold Henthorn killed his second wife, Toni Henthorn. He killed her on her twelfth wedding anniversary. The incident took place while they were hiking in the Rocky Mountains. Toni fell 128 feet from the cliff.
However, there was not enough evidence to prove him guilty of the murder of his first wife.
At the trial for the murder of his second wife, the Tenth Circuit Court determined that the murder was a pre-planned design and not a mere accident. Upon further investigation, the court noted that Toni Henthorn suffered from a severe brain haemorrhage, a broken neck and blunt force trauma to the chest and abdomen. But there were no signs of reactivation associated with CPR. The autopsy result did not match Henthorn’s statement where he mentioned that he tried to revive his wife using CPR.
As a result, Harold Henthorn was unable to win the trial. In addition, all were sentenced to life imprisonment. he was finally arrested in November.
