Shiv Kumar Subramaniam was an Indian actor and screenwriter. He passed away on April 10, 2022 due to a long-term illness and pancreatic cancer. He is known for playing the character of Alia Bhatt’s father in the Bollywood film 2 States. Shiv Kumar also worked in many Hindi films like Meenakshi Sundareshwar, Hichki, Laakhon Mein Ek, Kaminey, 1942: A Love Story, etc. He had also achieved popularity for roles in television shows like Kismat and Mukti Bandhan.
Biography
Shiv Kumar Subramaniam was born on December 23, 1959 in a Tamil Hindu family in Mumbai, Maharashtra. He was the eldest son of Balaram Subramaniam. His family also consists of two brothers named Rajlaxmi Dravid and Raja Subramaniam. Shiv Kumar did his early studies at Shri Shivaji Preparatory Military School, Pune and later graduated in English Literature from St. Xavier’s College, Mumbai.
He began his acting career when he joined Naseeruddin Shah’s theater group in the 1980s. He soon met noted filmmaker Vidhu Vinod Chopra, who asked him to write the script for his gangster film Parinda. Some of his other films include Rocky Handsome, Ungli, Kaminey, 1942: A Love Story and 2 States.
