A disturbed son was found naked in his bedroom after he allegedly killed his mother and her dog, blaming witchcraft and laughing during his first court appearance, telling the judge it was “always a pleasure”.
Tyler Dazey, 28, of Dubuque, Iowa, was charged with first-degree murder in the death of his mother, Jennifer Ann Dazey, 46, who suffered “significant” lacerations to her face, neck and head. KWWL reported, citing police.
Two of his fingers were also cut off during the brutal attack, which also claimed the life of the family dog, whose body was discovered on the living room sofa with significant head injuries.
He later claimed his mother used witchcraft against him, calling her a “whore,” CBS 2 Iowa reported.
One of the dead woman’s friends stumbled upon the gruesome scene early Thursday morning after calling to visit her.
Police found Tyler naked in his bedroom, where he “wasn’t overly receptive” to officers, KWWL said.
After obtaining a search warrant, police located a tactical tomahawk in the bathroom and its sheath on the dining room table, Law & Crime reported.
Investigators have not said whether they believe the tomahawk, which they sent along with other evidence to the state crime lab for analysis, was the murder weapon.

After being released from a local hospital, Tyler was questioned by police and said the tomahawk was his, KWWL reported.
He claimed that his mother was in his bed practicing witchcraft and had been doing it against him for years.
When asked about her death, Tyler allegedly invoked his Miranda rights but described his mother as a “whore,” CBS 2 Iowa reported.
Tyler is charged with first-degree murder and animal abuse resulting in death.
During his initial court appearance, Tyler laughed and told Judge Mark Hostager that it was “always a pleasure” before the end of his video appearance from jail, the Telegraph Herald reported.
The judge ordered him held on $2 million, cash-only bail at the Dubuque County Jail. He has not entered a plea and will be appointed a public defender.
