A witness told police the student climbed through a window during a group discussion in the college hall and hit the student with a hammer at least three times and stabbed her with a knife at least twice. The other three male students were reportedly seriously injured in the attack when they tried to protect the student.

The two male students were treated at Northfield Hospital for non-life-threatening injuries. Police stated that the student is still in the hospital in stable condition. Police saw the three male students sitting shoulder to shoulder and found a knife and hammer in the room. Schulerburg was in the middle and had blood on his hands. He was found guilty and turned himself in, as he claimed that he had hurt himself and others around him, while being questioned. Police confirmed that Schulerburg and the student had a previous relationship. St. Olaf College had issued a no contact order for him and warned him to stay away from him.

In addition, prosecutors said that at the hospital the woman identified him as her attacker. The shooter told police that he had planned to buy a gun to shoot himself or someone else, ‘someone else’ being the student. The Northfield Police Department said there is no ongoing news for the public.
