Stevenage incident today
Following an incident which resulted in the closure of a major Stevenage road until around 7pm on September 7, a man was arrested on suspicion of firearms offences. On 6 September, at around 6.30pm, Stevenage Police Station received a contact from Herts Police reporting a road traffic collision. The motorway was closed in both directions so police could “complete a full investigation” after it was claimed a firearm may have been seen. One man with “serious injuries” was taken to hospital, while another was arrested on suspicion of violating the firearms law. He is currently detained by police while they conduct their investigation.
According to a Herts police spokeswoman, “there is no known risk to the public” and it is believed that the people involved in the incident knew each other. Initially stating that the road restriction “could remain in place early” on Thursday, September 7, police later clarified that they anticipated the road would reopen around 5 pm. The route was stopped until just before 7 o’clock. Six police officers and a dog were seen walking along the road and some green areas between Stevenage Police Station and Lytton Way at around 2.15pm.
