Substitute teacher accused of child abuse for forcing two students to kiss

A North Las Vegas substitute teacher accused of forcing two students to kiss last month has been arrested, according to police.

Rasheda Rose, 29, was arrested Wednesday and charged with two counts of child abuse after allegedly forcing sixth graders to kiss in front of other students at Legacy Traditional Schools, a charter school in north Las Vegas, KLAS reported.

The North Las Vegas Police Department received reports on October 12 that a substitute teacher had made “inappropriate” comments in class two days earlier.

An email sent to parents about the incident claimed Rose encouraged children to “kiss” and used “inappropriate language.”

Robynn Bell, whose son was in the classroom, told the outlet that all the students felt “extremely uncomfortable” at the time.

“Who asks a sixth grader who has a boyfriend and girlfriend? Kids really aren’t here for that. They are here to learn,” said another mother, Anais Gallegos.

Many parents criticized the school for not notifying them on the day of the incident, depriving them of the opportunity to discuss it immediately after it happened. They were not informed until the next day.

Legacy Traditional Schools said its substitute teachers are provided by an outside agency. The agency was conducting its own investigation into the incident.

Rose has been relieved of her teaching duties, according to the NLVPD. She was committed to the North Las Vegas Community Correctional Center.
