Syria attack kills 11 top Iranian military officers, wounds top Damascus adviser: report

An Israeli airstrike on Damascus airport reportedly killed nearly a dozen senior Iranian military officers, which one expert told Fox News Digital would demonstrate Israel’s ability to maintain a multifaceted defense of the region.

“While there is no independent confirmation of the names or ranks of the Guard Corps, the IRGC has long viewed Syria as a critical regional hub for projecting power in the eastern Mediterranean and connecting its constellation of proxies called the ‘ Axis of Resistance’”, Behnam Ben Taleblu. said a senior researcher at the Foundation for the Defense of Democracies.

“No one should be surprised that the elite Guard Corps is operating there, especially in the middle of a regional war, which they are conducting far from their own soil,” he added.

“Likewise, if the attack were independently verified, it would be further proof that Israel is capable of containing and deterring elements of the Axis of Resistance in other geographies while fighting to defeat Hamas in Gaza,” Taleblu emphasized.

Syrian media claimed that Israel had attacked sites in southern Syria and near Damascus in waves aimed at disrupting Iran’s operations in the country.

A Jerusalem Post report claimed that the attack killed 11 leaders of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) at the airport on Thursday night.

Also reportedly among the targeted IRGC leaders was Nur Rashid, the commander of the Revolutionary Guards in eastern Syria, who suffered only injuries in the attack.

Pro-regime media citing an IRGC official denied that 11 of its senior members had been killed in a report published late Friday in Iran.

Iranian state media interrupted programming to announce Mousavi’s death, describing him as one of the IRGC’s longest-serving advisers in Syria.

While the IDF has not commented on the recent attacks in Syria, Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant spoke on Friday during a tour of Ramat David air base and stated that “IAF operations across the board are very impressive. “It is appropriate that the ‘thunder’ of our planes drowns out unnecessary arguments and allows the IDF to carry out its missions quietly and safely.”
