The name of Taib Mahmud’s first wife was Laila Taib. She was a Polish Muslim of Lipka Tatar origin. The two were married at the mosque in Adelaide, South Australia, on January 13, 1959. They were married when Laila was just 18 years old. Sadly, she died on April 29, 2009 after battling cancer. She was buried at Demak Jaya Cemetery in Kuching. After Laila Taib’s death in 2010, Taib Mahmud remarried. He married Ragad Waleed Akkurdi, a Syrian-born widow in her 30s. They were married on December 18, 2010.
