By the year 2023, there will likely be more than two billion websites online, according to some estimates.
If we were to rank all of these websites based on the amount of traffic they receive, we would look at a power law distribution, which is a very common type. At the very least, the vast majority of these websites would be down and receive little to no traffic. However, at the top of the ranking, there is a select group of websites that attract the lion’s share of total website visitors.

Websites generate the most traffic
Google is, without a doubt, the website that receives the most visits worldwide. Google has firmly established itself as the most trusted source of information on the Internet, with more than 3.5 billion searches performed every day. However, Google’s dominance is not limited to that. Furthermore, the firm owns YouTube, which is the second most visited website in the world. The combined traffic from Google and YouTube is higher than the next 48 most popular websites combined.
In particular, the potential that can be harnessed through YouTube is not always fully recognized. Following in the footsteps of Google as the most popular search engine in the world is the video platform.

On top of this, YouTube’s average visit duration is the second largest among all these top 50 websites. (The Chinese video-sharing website known as Bilibili comes first.)
However, Google and YouTube are not the only major players on the Internet. There are many others. Social media platforms Facebook, Instagram, and TikTok are among the other websites that made the top 50 ranking. For example, TikTok has experienced a meteoric rise in popularity in recent years and has quickly become one of the most used social networking sites around the world.

The United States remains the location of choice for most of the world’s largest websites, as evidenced by the fact that it occupies 30 positions in this ranking. Most of these 30 websites, including Microsoft, Amazon, Alphabet, Meta, and Netflix, are owned and operated by large tech companies.
Behind the United States and Germany are Russia, China, Japan and South Korea, respectively.
The “other” category, which comprises six other websites, is where things start to get interesting. Aaj Tak and Globo, both important publications in the media landscape of their respective countries, occupy two of the available spaces.

The remaining four websites, XVideos, PornHub, XHamster, and XNXX, all focus on adult content and can be found in a variety of places around the world. Due to the fact that they are structured similarly to YouTube, people often refer to these as “tube sites.”
Realsrv is the only top 50 adult oriented website to be found in the United States, and due to the fact that it is not a household name, it is interesting to investigate further. By steering users away from the material they were viewing and onto another page, the website is essentially supporting advertising efforts (usually premium adult content). This is a significant contributor to the money adult websites bring in.
