Throwback Thursday: 7 Things Only ’90s Kids Will Really Understand and Miss

Haven’t all the ’90s kids boasted that their lives were better than those of Generation Z and future generations? When technology advanced, life was simpler. We didn’t look at our phones and enjoyed playing in the sun (of course the temperature wasn’t 50 degrees). We were equally proud of our heroic Shaktiman and enjoyed eating Poppins.

We didn’t have an unlimited Spotify collection, but thanks to our Walkman we knew the lyrics to every hit. But these are simply pleasant memories that we should cherish. Here are seven such memories that will take you back to your childhood:

1.Doordarshan

    Doordarshan Channel world republic

With only one channel as the main source of entertainment, young people waited for hours to watch their favorite song on television, while being watched by their parents. There was no time for personal television or cartoons. Generally, children watched television on Sunday mornings when Doordarshan aired Mahabharat, Ramayana and Shaktiman.

2.walkman

Can you imagine trying to fit a Walkman in your pocket? But the kids of the 1990s made it. It was a portable audio cassette player and recorder known as a Walkman. It was the ancestor of all the portable disc and tape music players that came later. The decline of the cassette Walkman was due to portable compact disc players.

3. Video recorder

A video recorder (VCR) is a device that records, stores and plays television programs on a television using a magnetic tape cassette. VHS is a video tape cassette format, while VCR refers to a type of device. Nowadays, it’s hard to realize that people used VCRs to enjoy the best home theater experience for many years.

4. Video games

There were manual video games before PUBG. The ‘classic brick game’ was a popular choice with many. Before mobile gaming and PlayStations hit the market, the screen offered superior visuals.

5.Poppins

Green, red and purple colors! Choose your favorite color! Back then, a favorite pill was Parle’s Poppins. Friends would compete for their favorite color of pill. “Don’t touch the read, it’s mine.” Taking the most desirable Poppins was the biggest triumph back then.

6. Spinning top

Lattu, or spinning top, is one of the earliest Indian toys. The lattu rotates rapidly thanks to a rope wound around its axis which, when pushed quickly, sets it in motion.

7. marbles

In the past, marbles were cooler than Marvel. Back then, games of marbles (kanche) were unique. The game is played with round glass marbles and the goal is to collect as many as you can by shooting and hitting other marbles with yours.

Children of the current era of PUBG and PlayStation have tragically missed out on traditional Indian games.
