Tillotama Shome was born in Calcutta, West Bengal. As his father was an officer in the Indian Air Force, he had to migrate through India. She has a younger brother, Gaurav Shome, in the family. Shome completed his studies from Lady Shri Ram College. She then moved to New York in 2004 to pursue a master’s degree in educational theater at New York University, where she remained until she returned to Mumbai in February 2008.

Career
Shome made her film debut in 2001 with director Mira Nair’s love film Monsoon Wedding, in which she played Alice. The film also featured Naseeruddin Shah and Lillete Dubey.
In 2009, Shome played a nun in Claire McCarthy’s Australian film The Waiting City. She played a social worker in Italo Spinelli’s social awareness film Gangor, based on the novel by Mahashweta Devi. In 2012, Shome appeared as Queen in Qaushiq Mukherjee’s Bengali film Tasher Desh. She subsequently appeared in several films including Shadows of Time, Turning 30, Shanghai, Budhia Singh – Born to Run, etc.
