Unhinged wedding party turns into all-out brawl with cops in wild video

Six people were arrested when a Rhode Island wedding party turned into a wild brawl with police, with body camera footage showing a woman repeatedly kicking an officer in the groin while another guest allegedly grabbed a gun.

Newport police officers arrived at The Landing restaurant in Bowen’s Wharf around 1 a.m. Sunday after a call about a disorderly party, according to a police report shared online.

Security staff told police that David Onik, 44, had allegedly attempted to punch one employee and push another when he was denied entry as an “unwanted party.”

As police questioned Onik, his friends began surrounding the officers, who repeatedly told them to back off before proceeding to arrest his wife, Rachael Onik, 41, for not following instructions.

After Onik’s wife tripped and fell during the arrest, the group of friends lunged at the officers, and Alexandra Flaherty, 31, was seen in an orange dress kicking the sergeant. Stephen Carrig in the groin, the police officer wrote in the report.

The cop then immediately hits Flaherty with a slap, leading to an all-out brawl as officers attempt to separate and arrest the group.

In the middle of the fight, Robert Nash, 30, punched Carrig, causing him to fall and get a bloody nose, the officer said in the report.

As the officers rushed Nash and handcuffed him, Flaherty could again be seen trying to kick the officers in the groin.

One of the suspects also allegedly tried to take an officer’s gun, according to the police report.

The police officer attempted to punch the suspect and ended up hitting Rachael in the jaw.

Rachael was knocked unconscious and she and Carrig were taken to a nearby hospital, where they have since been released, WPRI reported.

Nash, Flaherty, Rachael and Olivia Costello, 20, face assault charges, as well as charges of resisting arrest, obstruction of justice and disorderly conduct, police said.

Onik was charged with disorderly conduct and the sixth person, Kylie Swain, 28, was charged with assault and disorderly conduct.

All but Swain are due in court Wednesday for an arraignment hearing.

The reports did not detail what relationship those arrested had to the wedding party, nor whether the brawl stopped the celebrations.
