Bosses Use Unique Interview Tactics for Employees
A Reddit user recently stated that his former employer used to base the entire outcome of an interview on what they called the “salt and pepper” test. “A company I used to work for does interviews all day long with multiple people, one of which is always a lunch interview. I heard about a guy who made his entire decision based on whether the person he was interviewing tested or not your food. before resorting to salt, pepper, hot sauce, etc.”
“If you didn’t try your food first, you didn’t get a pass from him,” one employee wrote on Reddit about his former boss’s interview method.
This has to be one of the most baffling and strange situations anyone has ever witnessed, making them reflect on how inactive the guy must have been.
According to The Mirror, the former employee wasn’t sure why his former boss was concerned about the “salt and pepper” test, but believed it had something to do with gauging a person’s willingness to try anything without prejudging it. “I’m glad I didn’t interview him because I almost always add pepper to things,” the Reddit user continued.

Trent, who left Xero Australia in September 2021, previously discussed his small interview process on the company’s podcast The Venture with entrepreneur Lambros Photios.
“I’ll take you on a walk to one of our kitchens and somehow you always end up walking away with a drink,” he revealed on the show in 2019. “Then when we get back to the interview, one of the things I always look for at the end is: Does the person doing the interview want to take that empty cup to the kitchen?
You can develop your skills, knowledge and experience, but it all comes down to mindset,” he concluded.
