United Airlines flight to Newark canceled after pilot arrested over Taser found in luggage at Edinburgh airport

A flight bound for Newark, New Jersey from Scotland was canceled Saturday when the pilot who was supposed to fly the United Airlines plane was handcuffed after airport security found a Taser in his bag.

The unidentified United employee, 56, was arrested and escorted out of Edinburgh airport by four armed police officers on Saturday, a witness told Edinburgh Live.

The pilot, who is American, was charged with a firearms offence, as it is illegal to possess a Taser in the UK.

His arrest left many disgruntled passengers hoping to fly back to New Jersey that morning, as the 9:25 a.m. flight was quickly cancelled.

It is unclear how many people were scheduled to take off on the flight, but the scheduled Boeing 757 can seat approximately 170 passengers.

United Airlines confirmed that the pilot had been “retired from service.”

“This employee was immediately removed from service and we are fully cooperating with local authorities,” the airline told The Post on Saturday.

Police Scotland also confirmed the pilot’s arrest and said “a report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal,” which is the country’s prosecutor’s office.

The pilot is due to appear at Edinburgh Sheriff Court on Monday.

The arrest of the unnamed pilot comes after the feds arrested a flight attendant for another U.S. airline this week.

The American Airlines flight attendant was arrested for allegedly recording several girls with a hidden camera in the bathroom.

Estes Carter Thompson III, 36, was captured by a 14-year-old victim, prompting a federal investigation into him. The investigation found videos of four victims: the youngest was only 7 years old.

The videos contained images of them using the bathroom on board the plane.
