Upstate racetrack fire kills 24 horses, leaves one injured

More than two dozen racehorses were killed and one person was injured after a man allegedly set fire to a barn at an upstate casino earlier this week.

Boyd H. Fenton, 32, was arrested after allegedly setting fire to one of the barns at the Tioga Downs Casino Resort, killing at least 24 horses in the early Thursday morning fire.

Fenton, of Athens, Pennsylvania, has been charged with multiple felonies including third-degree arson, third-degree burglary, criminal mischief, and second-degree assault.

An investigation found that he “entered the barn and set an intentional fire, causing thousands of dollars in damage,” according to a New York State Police news release.

“Upon the arrival of the first units, an intense fire was located inside one of the horse barns,” Tioga County emergency responders wrote on Facebook.
