The harrowing story of child abuse and neglect emerged when the severely malnourished boy was found wandering the neighborhood, desperately looking for a grocery store to order food.

According to a New York Post report, Tyler and Krista Schindley were taken into custody by Griffin police after a concerned neighbor came across the malnourished boy on the streets last Friday.

Disturbingly, the boy pleaded with officers, urging them not to send him back home.

Calling the case one of the most serious child hunger cases she has ever faced, lawyer Marie Broder said: “As a mother, I can’t comprehend it. As a human being, it breaks your heart. We’re not going to post any photos of this child for obvious reasons, but I’ll tell you, the photos are absolutely horrible, and anyone with a human heart, who looks at them , must be shaken to the core.”

Tyler and Krista Schindley are now facing multiple charges, including attempted murder, false imprisonment, cruelty to children, and others.

A 10-year-old boy ran away from his family home and was found wandering by a watchful neighbor in Westminster Circle, Fox 5 News reported. Authorities were notified and it became clear that the child had experienced extreme suffering.

The investigation is ongoing to ensure the safety and well-being of the young victim.

The boy was rushed to the hospital for immediate treatment due to malnutrition and low heart rate.

District Attorney Broder credited the neighbor with saving the boy’s life.

Broder said: “I sincerely believe that if I had not left the house, this case would be very different.”

Neighbors revealed that parents frequently left their older children alone for days while they went on vacation.

A neighbor named Kim Seigler expressed her surprise, saying: “That’s just horrible. For someone to be like that, and being my next-door neighbor, makes me wonder if I should have been more observant.”

The investigation is still active and the other four children are currently in the custody of the Georgia Division of Children and Family Services.
