A Utah teenager allegedly researched “taking a baby’s life” and “dumping” on the Internet before killing her sickly newborn son and then dumping his body on a highway.
Estrella Meza-Ojeda, 18, gave birth to her son prematurely on August 6, FOX13 reported. She was arrested Saturday on charges of aggravated murder, obstruction of justice, abuse or desecration of a body and presenting false identification in connection with the baby’s death.
A search warrant for the teen’s phone executed Wednesday revealed a series of incriminating Internet searches.
Some of the searches include: “how much time will I serve in prison for killing my baby,” “taking a baby’s life,” “holy death,” and “dumpsters near me,” according to FOX13.
The teen mother allegedly told Heber City police investigators that her son died accidentally and then left his body on the side of Interstate 80 in Parleys Canyon, the outlet said, citing the arrest affidavit.

Authorities believe Meza-Ojeda deliberately tried to “erase any and all traces” of the newborn when she felt overwhelmed caring for a sick child, the Deseret News said. She is currently being held without bail at the Wasatch County Jail.
Meza-Ojeda’s baby spent 22 days in the NICU before being discharged earlier this month, the Deseret News added, citing the arrest affidavit.
The boy was discharged with supplemental oxygen and a monitor, which staff reportedly told Meza-Ojeda was essential for his survival.
On September 1, just days after being released from the hospital, Meza-Ojeda’s son, identified in the documents with the initials “DO,” was readmitted by ambulance after he stopped breathing, the outlet continued.

The baby arrived without supplemental oxygen and Meza-Ojeda was sent home with an additional reminder that oxygen was necessary for his survival, FOX13 added.

Ten days later, police were called to conduct a well-being check on the baby when Meza-Ojeda did not bring him to a follow-up appointment, the outlet continued.

On September 14, Meza-Ojeda’s roommate told police she had not seen the young mother or the baby since she left for work on September 11. When she returned, Meza-Ojeda and his son were gone, as were the baby’s clothes. .
However, the oxygen tanks and the baby’s car seat were still in the apartment, FOX13 said.
The roommate also claimed that she noticed that the baby was not receiving oxygen on September 10 and that Meza-Ojeda dismissed her when she asked him about it.
An “extensive search” of the mother and child later located Meza-Orjeda, who told an agent with the Utah Division of Children and Family Services that her son was in Mexico, the outlet reported.
Then on September 19, police tracked down Meza-Orjeda at her new boyfriend’s residence in Kamas, FOX13 continued.
She initially refused to answer questions about the baby, and even asked officers not to mention the missing child near her boyfriend because he didn’t know about the birth, the outlet said.
Finally, the arrest report explains, Meza-Ojeda told investigators that she sent the baby to Mexico with a family friend because she was overwhelmed.
“Estrella stated that it had been difficult raising a baby who needed special care and that she wanted to go back to work. Estrella claimed that she had made a rash decision without thinking,” the document recalls, according to the Deseret News.
Meza-Orjeda refused to give police the phone number of the man she said was babysitting her son, and phone calls to his mother, who also lives in Mexico, were unsuccessful, FOX13 said.
Throughout her interviews with police, Meza-Orjeda continued to change her story about where and when she gave her son to the anonymous family friend, the outlet noted.
“I repeatedly asked for information for anyone who could corroborate his story and he stated that only his mother and sister (could), although their phone numbers did not work. “He told me that DO is doing very well and is being treated by a pediatrician in Mexico City,” the affidavit says.
The searches began on Sept. 3, two days after the baby was readmitted to the hospital, police said.
When the police questioned her again, Meza-Ojeda began to agree that “[the baby] “He was no longer alive,” the outlet said. Eventually, he told officers that he used his roommate’s car to meet a man at Smith’s grocery store in Park City, about 15 minutes from his apartment, the affidavit states. .
Meza-Orjeda admitted that she took the baby with her and did not bring him oxygen because she thought it was bothering him. The person he planned to meet did not show up and when he returned home he realized that the baby was dead.
Meza-Orjeda claimed he then drove to Salt Lake City and left the baby’s body covered in a gray elephant blanket on the side of I-80, according to the harrowing report.
The teen led officers to the area where she believes she left the body, the Deseret News said.
