The family took to Reddit to share the incredible letter they received from their doctor, revealing how it came after saying a final goodbye to their 18-year-old dog, Sunny.

It was written by ‘Helper’ who explained that they were an angel tasked with informing people that their dogs had reached heaven.

“There are many angels in heaven and we all have different jobs,” the letter said. “One of the main angels told me that you were worried about Sunny and asked me to write to you about him.” Sunny had recently arrived at heaven’s gates, the message said, and was ‘just wonderful’.

Sunny was described as having the time of her life in canine heaven, with the letter saying she was “running and jumping” and having a “wonderful time” meeting some familiar furry companions.

Things only get more emotional from there, as the letter assures the family that the dog misses them and “hopes they understand why he had to come here.” “I’m sure Sunny will be there to greet them when they come here one day, and they’ll have a great meeting,” she said.

The letter concluded with Sunny sending her love, and when shared on Reddit, Sunny’s owner said they were “out of words.”

Reddit users had mixed reactions to the letter.

“Our vet sends sympathy cards signed by all the staff. It’s a little hard to take, but they know people are hurting. Ask the vet staff what the hardest part of their job is, and that is euthanizing a pet that has been part of your life and your family day in and day out for many years,” wrote one Reddit user.

Another added: “I just said goodbye to my 13.5 year old lab 10 days ago… still waiting for the call to pick up his ashes. I’ve been pretty stable the last few days but this broke me again.”

“OMG. I was sure the only reason it got upvoted would be because people were making fun of it or getting mad about it,” added another.
