Roger Suárez, candidate of the Colombian Democratic Party for Mayor of the Platón municipality, department of Magdalena, Colombia, has gone viral due to the controversial content.
According to the images shown, the politician is seen accompanied by two women doing a sensual dance to demonstrate what is ‘currently’ happening with the mayor’s office in his area.
The publication of Suárez, known for his sarcastic style, is seated in front of two women who are performing a dance, whose only butts are visible.
The candidate then holds the women by their hips and pushes them aside, an action that has sparked strong criticism.
“Everyone who becomes mayor becomes degenerate; I’m not up to that. Old, yes; stubborn, no,” Suárez expressed in the controversial video.
Despite the controversy generated, Suárez, who has training in Human Rights, has not yet issued an official statement about the video.
His campaign profile supports the slogan “it is our time.”
The municipality of Plato has a dozen registered candidates for Mayor. Although Suárez is not among the favorites, he has gained notoriety and criticism for the video.
On his social networks, the candidate received several criticisms, where many expressed that it is possible to convey a political message without resorting to denigration of people, especially women.
Colombia’s 2023 regional elections will be held on October 29 in order to elect the positions of governors for the 32 departments, deputies of the Departmental Assemblies, mayors of 1,102 municipalities, municipal councilors and councilors of the Local Administrative Boards of the National territory.
