In a short video shared Monday on X (formerly Twitter), the Tesla robot Optimus can be seen standing next to a table and folding a black shirt on its own without assistance.
The Tesla CEO captioned the video: “Optimus folds a shirt.”
When was the robot first revealed?
Tesla first revealed the humanoid robot in 2022, as part of CEO Elon Musk’s broader ambition to automate all human physical work and speed up the company’s production operations.
According to the company, the goal of the robot is to be an “autonomous, bipedal, general-purpose humanoid robot capable of performing unsafe, repetitive or boring tasks.”
According to a biography of the billionaire published last year, Musk told colleagues that the Optimus robot was instrumental in turning the electric vehicle company into a $10 trillion company.

Tesla’s CEO previously stated that the robot was being designed to replace human labor in “repetitive, boring and dangerous tasks.” “The vision is for them to serve millions of households, for example cooking, mowing lawns and caring for the elderly,” he continued.
However, about 30 minutes after uploading the last video, the SpaceX and Tesla CEO included an “important note” below the tweet, stating that the movie was not exactly what it seemed.
“Optimus can’t do this autonomously yet, but it will certainly be able to do it fully autonomously and in an arbitrary environment (which won’t require a fixed table with a box containing only a t-shirt),” Musk added.
How did people react on the Internet?
Users of X and competing platform Threads questioned how the video was created if the robot’s feat was not “completely autonomous.”
The electric vehicle company has not yet offered information on the price or delivery date of Optimus, but Musk has previously hinted that the robot could cost less than $20,000.
At Tesla AI Day 2022, Elon Musk claimed that the robot could be delivered within three to five years.
