View Of A Lifetime! Astrophotographer Shares Crisp Capture of Saturn, Leaves Stargazers Spellbound

Space has been a mysterious entity to us humans from the beginning of time. We can easily imagine a Homo habilis millions of years ago looking up at the night sky, wondering and appreciating the mesmerising beauty of it all.

Well, that much has not changed since the early beginnings of civilisation. People still take the time to look up and appreciate the beauty of the space that surrounds the Earth.

Andrew used his 14″ Dobsonian telescope to capture the planet in all its glory. Today, he also uploaded his view of the 2023 Sturgeon Supermoon as it shone through the night during the monsoon storms in the Arizona desert. The photographer captured the rare astro phenomenon using two cameras and two telescopes and the result was nothing short of breathtaking.

My capture of the 2023 Sturgeon Supermoon as it shone brilliantly through the monsoon storms here in the Arizona desert. This was captured using two cameras and two telescopes to resolve it in extreme detail. This is one of two supermoons in August, a fairly rare occurrence! pic.twitter.com/3xBojrIO3y

Andrew is no amateur photographer, he does astrophotography full-time. In his blog ‘Cosmic Background’, he recalls how his journey of surfing the stars began in the summer of 2017 during a solar eclipse, he wondered if he could recreate his childhood memories of using his dad’s telescope to look at the solar system, and bought his first telescope the 10″ Dobsonian. He has not stopped since.

During the initial week of August, the most notable astronomical spectacle will be the close encounter of the Moon and Saturn in the pre-dawn hours of August 3. An impressive sight awaits as a brilliant, nearly full waxing gibbous moon will come remarkably close. Look forward to this captivating celestial event.

Each year, the Perseids meteor shower reaches its peak in the middle of August, and in 2023, this peak is anticipated to take place during the night of the 13. During this pinnacle, sky gazers can delight in the spectacle of witnessing an astonishing display of up to 150 meteors per hour streaking across the heavens.

August 30 will grant us a remarkable celestial event – a rare blue supermoon. The next time this supermoon will be seen will be only in 2032 while the last time this phenomenon occurred was in 2009.
