Vivek Ramaswamy and Trump applaud each other at Mar-a-Lago as the vice president mills around

Donald Trump and former Republican presidential foe Vivek Ramaswamy smiled together at the Mar-A-Lago Trumpettes gala on Saturday night, sending netizens into a frenzy amid rumors of veepstakes.

Ramaswamy, 38, and his wife Apoorva were seen entering the gala along with former president and former first lady Melania Trump, 77, at the “Golden Evening for a Golden President” event.

“Vivek is here. He is clever. He is cunning. She was happy to take him out of the race. And as soon as he came out, he had my back. And he has a tremendous future,” Trump exclaimed as he welcomed Vivek on stage Saturday night.

“He is young and intelligent. Melania and I were saying, ‘It doesn’t get any smarter than this.’ “

A smiling Ramaswamy quickly took the podium and praised Trump, warning that “we are in the middle of a war in this country” and we need him back in the White House.

Ramaswamy mentioned a handful of hot-button issues like inflation and the border, while maintaining that Trump is better equipped to address them.

During his roughly 11-month run for president in the 2024 Republican cycle, Ramawamy presented himself as a staunch MAGA acolyte interested in advancing Trump’s agenda. He rarely criticized Trump.

Since dropping out of the race, he has joined the former president on the campaign trail and kept the door open to being Trump’s vice presidential nominee.

“You have to decide who will be a good president. You always have to think that,” Trump told Fox New’s “Sunday Morning Futures” show earlier this month, referring to his selection as vice president. “I have a lot of good people. “We have a lot of really good people.”

Trump also named Sen. Tim Scott (R-SC) and South Dakota Gov. Kristi Noem in that interview, while joking that he won’t make that decision public for “a while.”

Last month, after Trump lashed out at Ramaswamy before the Iowa Caucuses, a senior Trump adviser suggested to the Post that people could “probably” rule out Ramaswamy as a vice presidential candidate.

Since then, the two have apparently mended their relationships.

Ramaswamy’s recent appearance alongside Trump at Mar-a-Lago helped reignite rumors about his prospects.

“Donald Trump, President of the United States, and Vivek Ramaswamy as Vice President would cause record levels of crisis here,” user Pavvy G posted on X.

Conservative podcast host Monica Crowley wrote: “President and Mrs. Trump hosted Vivek and Apoorva Ramaswamy last night at Mar-a-Lago. “Things are moving.”

Rumors that Ramaswamy would become Trump’s running mate were also fueled earlier this month by a New York Times op-ed suggesting he is a strong contender.

He still faces a challenge from his former U.S. ambassador to the U.N., Nikki Haley, but he has won every race that featured delegates so far and has a big lead in the polls.

The GOP’s next major race will be in South Carolina on February 24.
