Who killed Jan Muhammad Mahar?
Jan Muhammad Mahar, a senior reporter for a Sindhi news station, was shot dead late on Saturday night in the Sukkur district during an armed attack by unidentified gunmen. He was taken to a private hospital by the channel’s correspondent Anas Ghangro, who claims that Mahar was attacked shortly after leaving the office at 9 p.m. to go home. Mahar was allegedly attacked while in his automobile close to the office, according to Ghangro. The attackers fled, shooting bullets into the air to frighten away the locals. The cops were unable to be reached for comment.
Earlier, on August 7, a newspaper reporter was fatally shot during an attack in the Pir Jo Goth neighborhood of the Khairpur district. 49-year-old Ghulam Asghar Khand had received nine bullet wounds. According to Sukkur SSP Singhar Malik, the attack was reportedly motivated by a disagreement over a plot of property in the Chak neighborhood of Sukkur. He said that Mahar was attacked at about 9.15 p.m. and that the police learned of the crime at 9:30 p.m. Malik informed The Express Tribune that when he and Sukkur DIG Javed Jiskani arrived at the hospital, they also invited the best doctors and surgeons in the area to do life-saving surgery on the journalist. Mahar, however, did not make it, according to Malik.
He claimed that three separate police squads, each led by a DSP, were attempting to track down the attackers who arrived on a motorbike. While the third team examined the CCTV footage, two teams were cordoning off the areas and performing snap checks. The SSP stated that “a personal dispute appears to be the cause of the attack.” Malik informed him that Mahar had not requested security for himself or informed the neighborhood police about his ongoing disagreement in Shikarpur. It was impossible to determine the attack’s motivation right away. According to the police, an old grudge may have been the catalyst for the murder, which is under investigation.
