Cause of death of Len Goodman
Gordon Leonard Goodman English professional ballroom dancer, dance teacher, and competition advisor, lived from April 25, 1944 to April 22, 2023. From its inception in 2004 until 2016, he served as head judge on the show British television Strictly Come Dancing, where various celebrities compete for the Glitterball trophy and from 2005 to 2022 on the American television show Dancing with the Stars. In Dartford, Kent, he also ran a ballroom dancing school. Goodman was in Bethnal Green, East London, where his grandmother was a peddler of fruit and vegetables. Young Len was tasked with making sure the vegetables looked fresh as he wheeled them around in his grandfather’s wheelbarrow. When he was six years old, his family moved to Blackfen, and later he went to Westwood Secondary Modern School, where he played cricket.
In Woolwich Goodman worked as a welder’s apprentice for Harland and Wolff.[7] At the age of 19, she started dancing when her doctor suggested it as some kind of treatment for a foot injury. After winning the British Championship in Blackpool when he was in his early 20s, Goodman turned professional, winning several more events, and eventually gave up dancing. His extraordinary contributions to dance earned him the Carl Alan Award, and in 2006 and 2007, a show in which he performed was nominated for an Emmy in the Outstanding Reality/Competition Program category.
On April 22, 2023, three days before his 79th birthday, Goodman died of bone cancer at a Royal Tunbridge Wells hospice. Partner “With a broken heart my dear friend and partner of 19 years the one and only ballroom legend #lengoodman has passed away,” Strictly Come Dancing judge Bruno Tonioli tweeted on social media. There will never be another person like you, and I will treasure the memories of our great travels and the countless shows we produced together at @bbcstrictly @dancingwiththestars. Goodman was praised as “a class act” and for having “sparkle, warmth and wit” by Strictly Come Dancing host Claudia Winkleman. Also paying tribute to Goodman, Camilla, the queen consort said she was “saddened” by the loss of him.
