WhatsApp is preparing to introduce a new option in its privacy settings that would allow users to hide the last time they saw it in ‘My contacts, except’. The messaging platform now has three options for users: Everyone, My Contacts, and Nobody.
Everyone can see your latest contact in the Everyone option, as the name suggests, however, only the contacts saved on your phone can see your latest contact in the ‘My Contacts’ section. No one will be able to see when you were last active on WhatsApp if you select the third option ‘No one’.
All three options are also available for profile pictures and about sections on WhatsApp, in addition to last views. As a result, the new ‘My contacts except’ setting will apply to all three options.
The Meta-owned messaging app has started rolling out a beta version of the ‘My contacts except’ feature. The first reports claiming that WhatsApp would roll out the privacy feature imminently surfaced in September 2021.
WhatsApp has started rolling out the functionality in the Android beta app, allowing users to test the ‘My contacts except’ feature before the official launch. Users who want to use the new functionality will not be able to see the last viewed profile picture or details in the section of users added to the ‘My except contacts’ list.
